Instagram / Facebook Connection Issues
Fixing common Meta API connection problems — token expiry, permissions, and business account requirements.

Business or Creator Account Required
Instagram widgets only work with Instagram Business or Creator accounts — personal accounts are not supported by Meta's API. If you're seeing a connection error, check that your Instagram account type is set to Business or Creator in the Instagram app settings.
Converting from a personal to a business account is free and takes about 2 minutes. Go to Instagram > Settings > Account > Switch to Professional Account.
Facebook Page Connection
Your Instagram Business account must be connected to a Facebook Page. This is a Meta requirement for API access. If you don't have a Facebook Page, create one and link it to your Instagram account in the Instagram app settings under "Linked Accounts".
When authorising Social Media Feeds, make sure you select the correct Facebook Page that's linked to your Instagram account.
Reauthorisation
Meta API tokens occasionally expire or need refreshing. While we handle most token refreshes automatically, sometimes a manual reauthorisation is needed. If your feed has stopped updating, try deleting the widget and creating a new one to go through the Meta login flow again.
After reauthorising, your feed should start updating again within one refresh cycle.
Permissions
During the Meta login flow, make sure you grant all requested permissions. If you declined a permission during the initial setup, the widget may not be able to access your content. Creating a new widget and accepting all permissions during the OAuth flow should resolve this.
We only request read-only access — we cannot post, edit, or delete anything on your Instagram or Facebook accounts.
